でもI STILL LOVE I.T.

PS3 "slim".
via PlayStation

I have a habit of purchasing systems right before they’re just about to announce the new versions, so I’m always about a generation behind. However, that doesn’t ever stop me from wanting to buy the old ones! Unfortunately there’s this demonic —but understandable, yes yes— concept called “NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY” so I always feel like I should buy older consoles… despite the advent of the PlayStation 4. That’s right, I want a PS3! Still! Despite Gaikai looming over our heads, I don’t think I’m patient enough to wait until 2014 for it to roll out. And even then, how likely is it that I’ll be able to stream all the games I want?

This is one of the reasons why backwards compatibility matters most to me; it’s not that I want to replay games I already own (I rarely ever do unless there’s some serious sidequesting to be done), but I feel like I’m always constantly trying to play catch up. The good news is that I foresee a price drop that will allow for me to happily pick up both, so I ain’t mad about it! And of course, there’s still the matter of getting a 3DS… when does it end

Some of my top priority games: Ni no Kuni / Metal Gear Solid 4 / Final Fantasy X & X-2 HD / LA Noire.

(If you haven’t noticed, I’m on a TERIYAKI BOYZ kick. Listen to “I still love H.E.R.” here!)

  1. First thing I thought of when I saw this post was “TERIYAKI BOYZZZZZ”!

    My PS3 which HAS backwards compatibility decided to give up on life and now I’m stuck with the dilemma of getting it fixed or just buying a new one ;-;. Thinking of FFX brings tears to my eyes :’> all that nostalgia.

    1. YESSSSSSSS I’m always hoping that somebody gets my slightly referential post titles!

      Oh man, that is tough… but I’m biased so I say BUY THE PS3, WAIT FOR FFX HD (unless there are games you really want to play on the PS2, because I’m sure you could get a used one on the cheap)

    My friend’s PS3 arrived on the day the PS4 was announced :’D It’s never too late! I feel like I’m playing catch up a lot too… And sometimes I just feel like I’m drowning in my backlog of games >_<

    Not sure if it's a game for you since it does have it's ~issues~ but I loved Nier to bits ; _ ;

    I can't wait for streaming! Some people don't really understand the awesomeness… Maybe because they never experienced watching friends struggle through games and laughing about it together, or even just not having the time to play a game yourself (or can't in my case with horror… but I still want to know what happens!) ahhh I can't wait!

    1. Hahah, I feel reassured! Don’t even get me started on my backlog :( I feel like that’s what’s keeping me from playing anything else, too. “If I don’t beat FFIV, I’m not even gonna try and start this other game…” IT’S A VICIOUS CYCLE

      I think I looked it up since I saw you tweet about it a bit! (Speaking of games, you hear about Bravely Default? I was thinking of picking that one up when it drops here, too.)

      Yesssssss, honestly one of the best parts of playing games is playing it with your friends. The input is usually always hilarious, the results doubly so!

        I’ve heard of it, it sounds quite interesting and it MIGHT be my kind of game since (I heard) the idea is to “bravely default” ie charge in with your automatic settings lol! but since it’s another RPG I don’t have any plans on picking it up atm God my backlog is terrible. I bought my 3DS at the start of this year with Kingdom Hearts 3D and I haven’t even tried it once /o
