1. What was your first song?
Definitely BoA’s “Number One”! Because I listened to a lot of Japanese music (including BoA’s stuff) I remember hearing the song for the first time and thinking, “I cannot make any sense of this language at allllllll”. How times have changed! I didn’t listen to any kpop after that (this was 2003 or so), but I gained interest again after listening to Lee Hyori, Epik High, and Clazziquai around 2005.
2. How did you discover kpop?
I had a lot of Korean friends in high school, very thankful to them for hooking it up (haha). 🙏
3. Who was your first favorite female artist?
Without a doubt BoA and Lee Hyori — THE 🐐 (I so miss the era of soloists)
4. Who was your first favorite male artist?
I still remember my high school friends arguing over who was better my freshman year, Se7en or Rain? SUCH GOOD TIMES, honestly. I loved both, but I’ll never forget the spectacle behind Rain’s “I’m Coming”. I wonder if he ever looks back at this and laughs, because I sure do!
5. Who was your first male and/or female group?
There’s H.O.T and Shinhwa, but TVXQ … oh my globbbbbbbbbb. THE DEPTH. OF MY LOVE. FOR THIS GROUP. What couldn’t they do well? I received a burned copy of “O” (JUNG! BAN! HAP!) as a Christmas gift in 2006, and I knew there would be no exit after hearing that album in full. Of course, I was devastated when they splintered apart before my very eyes just a few years later! I just couldn’t bear to listen to either of the groups separately (2VXQ or JYJ), so that was it for me.
As far as girl groups go, it’s always been the Wonder Girls. Despite all the member changes, they are still my #1!
6. First piece of choreography you learned?
“BALLOOOOOOOOONS”, by none other than TVXQ. Dang, it’s so hard to look at Yoochun… and the rest of JYJ, to be honest. :\ (see here)
7. Who is your current favorite group?
SHINeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
8. First reality show?
Super Junior Full House! This is old school. And when I say old school, I mean like pre-Kyuhyun, while-Hangeng-AND-Kibum-were-still-in-the-group old school. NEVER 4GET: “you look like Nicolas Cage!”
9. Not counting your bias’ group, which group has a special place in your heart?
2PM and Jay Park!
10. What was the first piece of merchandise you ever bought?
Probably Fly to the Sky’s “No Limitations”, but the most expensive… definitely the tickets for Big Bang’s MADE tour in NJ last year. NO REGRETS. 빵야 빵야 빵야~
11. What was life before kpop?
Anime and manga.
12. How has kpop changed your life?
I met great friends! 😊
